How to Bid at an Online Auction with YVAuctions

Learning how to bid at an online auction is easy with Yarra Valley Auctions.

All YVAuctions sales are conducted live online through the HiBid bidding platform, allowing collectors from anywhere in Australia — and around the world — to participate.

Follow the steps below to register and start bidding.

Step 1 – Visit Our Auction Catalogue

Go to:

Click the blue button “Register & Bid” or select the auction catalogue you wish to participate in.

This will redirect you to our HiBid auction platform.

Step 2 – Create Your Bidder Account

If you are bidding for the first time:

• Click Login / New Bidder
• Enter your name, address, phone number and email
• Create a secure password
• Accept the Terms & Conditions of Sale

Once completed, your account will be ready for bidding.

For security purposes, some registrations may require manual approval by our office before bidding is activated.

Step 3 – Register for the Auction

After creating your account, you must register for the specific auction.

Simply click:

“Register to Bid”

Once approved, you will be able to place bids immediately.

Step 4 –How to Bid at an Online Auction

Many YVauctions sales are conducted as Live Stream Auctions.

This means the auctioneer conducts the sale live from our auction rooms, while it is broadcast online in real time through HiBid.

You can watch the auction live on your computer or phone and bid instantly while the auctioneer is calling each lot.

How it works:

• Lots appear on screen as the auctioneer calls them
• Bids are placed live through the HiBid platform
• The auctioneer can see online bids instantly
• The highest bidder wins the lot when the hammer falls

This format combines the excitement of a traditional auction with the convenience of online bidding, allowing collectors from across Australia to compete live.

Step 5 – Start Bidding

There are several ways to bid:

Place a Bid

Click the Bid Button on the lot you wish to purchase.

Leave a Maximum Bid (Auto Bid)

Enter your maximum bid, and the system will automatically increase your bid in the set increments to keep you in the lead.

Watch Items

Add lots to your watch list to follow them during the auction.

Step 6 – Timed Online Auctions

YVAuctions also conduct Timed Online Auctions.

Lots will begin closing at the advertised time and feature “soft closing” bidding, meaning:

If a bid is placed in the final moments, the countdown resets to allow other bidders time to respond.

This prevents last-second “sniping” and ensures fair bidding for all participants.

Step 7 – If You Win a Lot

Successful bidders will receive an invoice by email shortly after the auction closes.

Payment is required within 48 hours of the auction unless prior arrangements have been made.

Accepted payment methods include:

• EFT / Bank Transfer
• EFTPOS
• Most credit cards
• Cash (by prior arrangement)

A 22% buyer’s premium (including GST) applies to most lots unless otherwise stated.

Collection & Shipping

Items must be paid for before collection or dispatch.

Collection times will be listed within the auction catalogue.

For interstate buyers we can assist with packing, postage and freight through our trusted transport carriers.
